uaeMC metaCAVE v.1 is a proposal for a complex of low-cost rental homes targeted for the working-class of metropolis Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This particular class of people, both citizens and immigrants, are finding it increasingly difficult to find facilities and amenities suitable for the recreation within a social climate that has produced a growing gap between the lower, working class and the upper class (the notion of a middle class is yet to be existent). On another level, metaCAVE v.1 is a low-rent housing complex designed to respond to the extreme environmental conditions of Dubai, while simultaneously existing as a system that is wholly self-sustained by harnessing and taking advantage of available resources of the immediate environment.
Parametrics is explored as a means of conceiving of a holistic design that is responsive to specific variables as a generator of function and form. Beginning with the development of components, analogous to prototype bricks, further development at different scales are made by the aggregation of said components to create a functioning whole.
