romaCWALL The identity of the Capotoline Hill has transformed as many times as the years it has been standing as a landmark in the heart of Rome, Italy. Albeit the great number of transformations, the monumental Vittorio Emmannuel has always been a central figure in which all the changes have hinged around. Although a building in appearance, the Vittorio Emmannuel is largely unoccupiable and is very much a Roman billboard of the city at large. But the developments in its immediate surrounding has slowly mutated itself into an unprecedented series and sequences of public spaces - an urbanscape of sorts.
There was a request for an extension/expansion of the existing Capotoline Museum. This project borrows the scale of the Vittorio Emmannuel and the notion of an urban billboard by establishing itself as an occupiable wall. Alongside the requested museum expansion, a media center is introduced as programs embedded within the wall structure.
The building as a conceptual and physical wall allows for a monumental presence in the urbanscape, simultaneously serving as a critical threshold from the city into the heart of the Capotoline Hill.
